Hello,I got a Kindle for Christmas and it made me think about e-books. Would you buy both the Kindle download and a paperback if the book was extra special? Did you know that you can lend/ borrow…Continue

Writing in the Surrey hills and using snow to make a character vulnerable

Hello,I went to Peaslake in the Surrey hills this weekend on a writing course. We had snow on Saturday night and wondered if we'd be stranded. Getting to the main road along country lanes wasn't easy but we managed it in the end! It was ironic as we'd been discussing conflict in beautiful settings that morning.…See More

What would a writer do without Wikipedia?

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 18:00 3 Comments

Hello,

I've just written a blog post- What would a writer do without Wikipedia?

When I was at university in the early 1990s we were given a list of books to use as research for our essays at the beginning of term. There would usually only be one or two copies of each book in the university library. Sometimes it was impossible to get hold of the book we needed.
Now we have the internet which has changed everything.
I've been writing Book 2 this week and…

Bringing scenes to life with photographs

Posted on December 8, 2011 at 21:30 2 Comments

Hello,

I've just written a blog post about using photographs to bring scenes to life when writing a novel.

Most of my novel is set in Siena, Italy where I lived in 1994. I've included a few photos from Siena explaining how I've used them to set scenes.

Thanks Anita. I am writing the very last chapter of the first draft this week-end (I hope)! I am stalling a little, maybe I don't really want it to end...

We all have a dogsbody bit in what we do but our writers group is vibrant and flourishing; last year we compiled and published an anthology Tales from the Buzzard, launched it in our local theatre and it sold very well, going through a reprint.

The local paper has also given us a local guest column for our writers every week.

Check us out on Twitter.

Hello Anita

The only Twitter Acount I have I run on behalf of Leighton Buzzard Writers Group, of which I'm publicity officer/ dogsbody etc.

The username is: LBbuzzards

Public Profile: http://twitter.com/LBbuzzards

We meet every two weeks in the local library for manuscript readings and hold events, the next one being an Open Mic Night, available to the public at large, in a local pub, The Wheatsheaf this coming Tuesday, November 15th.

I am writing a relationship novel, not really romantic-and I do hate this genre pigeon holing- set in Sussex and London in the 1970s. As you can see it doesn't fit a genre but, so what?
