About me
I love reading and walking my dogs around the beautiful and rugged coast of Guernsey. I am fascinated by history and Guernsey certainly has a wealth of it, with smuggling, pirates, privateering, wars, civil wars, mystery and famous people. In St Peter Port, it's easy for the imagination to conjure up the past.

Try not to look back

A Guernsey Exile tells the story of the friendship and romance that develops between two children, Elizabeth and Thomas, during a period of poverty, slavery, smuggling and war in the mid-eighteenth century. The story was inspired by the true but little known incident of Guernsey children being exiled from the poorhouse and sold into indentured servitude in the American colonies.

As they grow up in Guernsey and Boston, and Elizabeth finds out who her father is, they are confronted by tragedy, greed and cruelty but, ultimately, also of friendship, love, compassion and hope.

Out 14 April 2012 on Amazon as an e-book for Kindle or PC (308 pages).

Hi,

Just posted a review to Amazon.co.uk

Beautifully crafted tale of romance set against the backdrop of Guernsey and America. While Customs & Excise men go about their business of catching and convicting smugglers, a young girl by accident becomes embroiled with a group of smugglers, and of course ends up on the wrong side of the law. No matter the smugglers have performed a relative good deed in Elizabeth's case, all are nonetheless arrested. Things then go from bad to worse for Elizabeth, and a tough life lesson is learned along the way, not least the loss of a loved one, plus a secret discovered within a locket. Without spoiling the plot, this is as much a tale of adventure as that of Elizabeth's transition from childhood to womanhood and of discovering love along the way. A lovely story.

Even greater when the royalty cheque rolls in she says (((rubbing hands with glee))... Just had mine from the US... Now what to spend the money on? I do rather like a new laptop I've spied. It's red, it's sexy, it's wafer thin!  I hate putting pocket money in the bank, too easy to spend it on non fun items.  ;)
