I've just heard that my first novel Reprobate Lord, Runaway Lady, has been nominated for an award in the US by Romantic Times.  As a relative newcomer to romance writing, actually any writing, I haven't a clue as to how important or otherwise this is but my editor tells me that it's definitely a Good Thing!

The POD is with Lulu.  I've managed to get as far as ordering a sample copy but found that the font looked too large in the book, though fine on screen.  Also there was an issue of a lot of white space here and there, so I'm now wasting time reformatting it!  If I ever self-publish again, it might be worth employing a professional to do the lay though no idea of charges.

Gosh, I didn't know you could sign up as an Associate of Amazon...food for thought.  And the POD - is that with Amazon too?

I mustn't exaggerate the difficulties with Kindle.  I'm fairly hopeless around technology so I was always going to find it hard.  It's the other things that I need to do which I find so tiresome - for instance, I should sign up as an associate of Amazon and put in a direct link to them from my website.  The heart sinks!  I'm currently trying to get the book into print on a p-o-d basis and that's even worse!

Thanks for the fingers and toes!

Congratulations, Isabelle! I read and reviewed this book for Cataromance and absolutely loved it! I'm not surprised that it got shortlisted for the RT award as it was a wonderful story.

I'm on the threshold of self-publishing on Kindle with my second novel...no takers as my two close encounters with publishers/agents have declared it 'too frothy'.  I'll put it to bed on the Kindle and inject some darkness into the third project!  Is it a total nightmare publishing on Kindle?  I've heard 'rumours'!!  And don't be negative about getting further than the nomination - I for one will be keeping my fingers and toes tightly crossed!

Thanks Debbie.  I'm not expecting to get much further than the nomination but it might just spark some interest in my other books.  Hopefully in my self publishing venture - somehow I've managed to upload my Victorian timeslip novel, Walking Through Glass, to Kindle and it would be nice to sell some copies after all that effort!

I do very little teaching now and no marking, which is blissful.  But I know what you mean about getting sidetracked.  I'm currently supposed to be doing revisions for one novel and writing another due in next Spring but all I can think of is the novel I'm desperate to write - no contract, of course!

Kudos Isabelle - I think Historical at M&B is a tough gig so a particular well done for succeeding solo! I write Historical also mostly, but always seem to veer some distance in time from Regency. So I don't know where I will end up. I have a completed Medieval (awaiting revisions) and have half finished a couple of others (17th C & 1st C and a YA). And therein lies the problem - I keep allowing myself to get side-tracked with exciting new projects. Must learn to be more single-minded. And to submit!!!

My biggest problem currently is definitely finding enough time. I still teach full-time, and with marking and preparation, it is exhausting (as I'm sure you know).
