I'm very impressed when people can write about their own lives. I think it's very brave. My own life, or more specfically, how I met my husband, would no doubt be comedic with a touch of drama, naturally. My life since then has been pretty boring and I have to say, I like it that way.
Comment by Francine Howarth on March 27, 2012 at 10:19 Hi Susan,
In some respects it proved to be immensely cathartic - highly emotional at times! When it was first published the editors said it caused more than a few tears, and of course some of the settings/backdrops were switched for personal reasons. There were aspects thought of as less than what we refer to as PC today, but on due consideration of heads together and a lot of hmmming and ahhhing the risque quotes/refs, inclusive that by a Black American duly went to press. In real-life the people were what they were and said what they said.
Of course, in novel terms the basic story is embellished to mask sequence of factual events. The sequel is unfinished: I live a reclusive lifestyle with second hubby, therefore beyond tending roses (beautiful garden) and walking the dog, the most exciting thing we do these days is attend the odd dinner/seasonal party, and such wouldn't make for suspenseful read, not unless I bought myself a Midsomer Murder hat... ;)
Comment by Susan Bergen on March 26, 2012 at 21:03 How brave of you Francine to incorporate your life into your novel. And I just love Romantic Suspense. Now that will keep us all guessing: which bits are fact and which fiction? Now I'm wondering if my life would make a better horror or a farce?
