Book Review: The Queen's Secret by Victoria Lamb

The Queen's Secret

Victoria Lamb

Bantam, Feb 2012

This feisty novel about Queen Elizabeth 1 follows The Progress of Elizabeth and her entire court to Kenilworth Castle in Warwickshire, the home of her consort, the ambitious and wealthy Earl of Leicester. Within the walls of the castle her trusty minister Walsingham discovers a plot to kill the queen. Meticulously researched, this debut novel is both a thrilling story of a thwarted attempted murder and a love story involving forbidden assignations

I was totally absorbed by its fascinating details of life at Tudor Court. Fans of historical fiction will find this to be an utter delight, a page-turner of intrigue, treason, spying, adultery and a real insight into the thoughts of the reigning monarch when considering the future of the monarchy as the Virgin Queen. To do or not to do – these thoughts consumed Elizabeth 1 that blazing summer of 1575.
