Bringing scenes to life with photographs

Hello,

I've just written a blog post about using photographs to bring scenes to life when writing a novel.

Most of my novel is set in Siena, Italy where I lived in 1994. I've included a few photos from Siena explaining how I've used them to set scenes.

When I write a story I need to be surrounded with photos of the towns, villages, chateaux etc... I am writing about. Even if I actually visited the place, I still like to have photos to be reminded of the atmosphere of a particular location or to be able to include details I might have forgotten about. As you rightly said, looking at the photos really brings you into the story. I'm currenly writing a story mostly taking place in Southern Algeria, in the Hoggar mountains, and just looking at the wonderful photos I have found in books or on the internet make me dream and, I hope, make my story more real. Well, that's what I hope anyway!
