Comment by Sarah Tranter on August 30, 2011 at 23:58 Great press release Kate! Agree 100% with the results (a big something in common with the romantic novelists, despite my 'aspiring' status!)
Only thing I'd say is - Loyal, honest and intelligent? Personally - and this is my own personal weakness - I'd have needed him to be tall, dark and handsome to have got to the stage of finding out he possessed those qualities. Personal hygiene on the other hand is another matter...
Comment by Phillipa Ashley on August 30, 2011 at 14:48 Romantic novelists don't think that wealth, height or good looks matter. Essential attributes of the perfect man include having a sense of humour, being kind and principled and having good personal hygiene. It's not even that important that he's good in bed – romantic novelists said this was desirable in the perfect man but not essential. And they really don't care what car he drives. But perhaps the women of Britain think differently?
And yet - these attributes do tend to matter in many novels by romantic novelists, they tend to matter in mine and in the novels I enjoy. They also mattered when I met my husband. I'm afraid my primary attraction to him was that I fancied the pants off him and still do. I'm sure that 'loyal, with good personal hygiene and a sense of humour'' are the glue of a long term relationship, but it does rather make him sound like a well-loved Labrador (apart from the personal hygiene.)
