Social networking for romance readers
The inaugural Romance Reader Awards were presented at a gala ball on 22 October attended by authors and publishing executives in the romantic surroundings of Hunton Park in Hertfordshire.
The Romance Reader Awards winners were presented with trophies from sponsors Total-E-Bound and Choc Lit. The winners were:
Best Romantic Read – Love and Freedom, Sue Moorcroft (Choc Lit)
Best Historical Read – Perhaps Tomorrow, Jean Fullerton (Orion)
Jane Judd presented the New Talent Award for a promising unpublished writer. The winner and runners-up were:
New Talent Award – winner: Henriette Gyland; runners-up: Sarah Callejo, Rosemary Dun, Debbie White
Two special Hall of Fame Awards were also presented to recognise outstanding contributions to romantic fiction. These winners were:
Romance Reader Hall of Fame (author) – Carole Matthews
Romance Reader Hall of Fame (publisher) – Harlequin Mills and Boon
The ball and awards closed the Festival of Romance, two days of festivities celebrating romantic fiction in all its forms. The Festival of Romance took place 21st to 22nd October 2011 at Hunton Park in Hertfordshire. Website: www.festivalofromance.co.uk
