Midori Kumashiro who is born to a Japanese father and an English mother is forced to leave Japan as the Shogun are no longer tolerating foreigners or mixed race people to live in their country. She buys passage on a Dutch trading ship to get to England to stay with her mother’s relatives. Little does she know what to expect from the long ship journey or from England where a Civil War is just about to start. What secrets does the captain hide?

This historical romance novel is a real page turner and full of suspense. I loved every bit from the first page to the last. The mixture between the turbulent events and the embedded love story is extremely well written.

I can highly recommend this heart-warming, emotional and interesting read!
