In August the Festival of Romance polled 58 UK romantic novelists about the attributes they thought made the perfect man. Over the last month, UK women were invited to take the same poll and here are the results.

The poll asked whether a long list of different attributes were "essential", "desirable" or "not important". Romantic novelists thought it was essential that the perfect man was loyal (91%), honest (89%) and had good personal hygiene (88%).

UK women, however, rated honesty as their number one essential attribute (95%) and rated a sense of humour (88%) above a need for personal hygiene (82%). Here is the definitive list of the top attributes of the perfect man according to the nation's women:

1. Honest (95%)

2. Loyal (91%)

3. Sense of humour (88%)

4=. Kind (82%)

4=. Personal hygiene (82%)

5. Intelligent (75%)

6. Principled (69%)

7. Hard working (57%)

The full results of the Perfect Man Poll will be announced at the Festival of Romance, 21st to 22nd October at Hunton Park in Hertfordshire. Thank you to everyone who took the poll and congratulations to the winners of the poll ticket prize draw.
